Mohamed Fouda

In Northwestern University, I am doing my PhD research in the field of optics. I researched the applications of light-matter interaction in Nanolithography and Optical modulation. Currently, I am working on the implementation of hypersensitive optical fiber gyroscope based on fast light.

- As a research assistant, I researched model predictive control and its applications in hybrid systems as a part of my master degree. I have implemented a model predictive controller for such systems using an Altera FPGA. The Hardware implementation solves a mixed-integer optimization problem in real-time to calculate the optimal control signal to apply. - As a teaching assistant, I have tutored many classes including control theory, electrical circuit design and analysis and Matlab.

I researched the power consumption of digital circuits. The project focus was to analyze the role of digital input transitions on the power consumption of different areas of the digital circuit. I have proposed a technique for accurate estimation of power consumption of both combinational and sequential logic circuits and identification of the digital circuit "hot spots" where the power consumption is maximum. Results of this research were published in recognized IEEE conferences.
