Dr. Ramiro Rojas

I am working on wood nanotechnology processing of hydrocolloids and nanocellulose aimed towards novel applications. My research refers to chemical treatments, polymer chemistry, derivatization, scale-ups, and processing. As a lab manager I lead day-to-day activities for researchers and give advice on chemistry, safety, and technical resources for efficient operations. Other responsibilities are managing budgets, organizing scientific meetings, and communicate research through presentations and reports.

As a post-doctoral fellow I conducted research at the interface between materials science and medicine, i.e., tissue engineering based on hyaluronic acid hydrogels for non-invasive clinical applications. Key competences: Tissue engineering, rheology, hydrogels, biopolymers, supervision.

I led the "Exploration of tyrosine-derived biomaterials design space through combinatorial and high-throughput approaches" project, which was completed by: Designing a toolbox of degradable and resorbable synthetic polymers based on 150 unique polymer compositions; developing modern automated and parallel synthetic procedures to accelerate the exploration of the synthetic polymer space; and publication of various articles and patents.
