Creation, manipulation and optimisation of Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) and Translation Memories (TMs), using a combination of XSLT, Python NLTK and PHP/MySQL, and related web technologies, in conjunction with SDL Trados Studio 2011 and Across CAT systems. Also responsible for development and implementation of factored Machine Translation (MT) technologies using Moses SMT, syntactic parsers and Python.

Working as part of major project for the above-mentioned institution, involving translation of its web gateway, knowledge base and press releases, as well as on a range of projects for smaller clients.

Creation of multilingual digital reference publications containing content licensed from partners such as HarperCollins, Oxford University Press, Merriam-Webster and Espasa Calpe. This involves integrating content data into the iFinger production system, based on the LinguistX Natural Language Processing Platform, by transforming XML into XHTML and other web formats for PC and hand-held devices using a combination of lexicographical and data modelling expertise, publishing systems, XML, XSLT, etc.

Editing ELT materials for Vaughan Systems.

Co-editor of Diccionario Cambridge Pocket (English-Spanish, Spanish-English) and Diccionario Cambridge Compact (English-Spanish, Spanish-English) with CD-Rom, for Elementary to Intermediate Spanish-speaking learners of English.

Translation mainly of legal and financial documents from Spanish and Portuguese into English.

Translation of a wide range of texts, including technical documents, from Spanish, German and French into English.

Maintenance, editorial and development of programme-support websites such as Wish You Were Here…?, Neighbours and The Bill, and corporate and legal translation. I was responsible for keeping the company newsletter updated in several languages. Achievements: . Pop Idol (forerunner of The X Factor): Developed the website for series one, which I also adapted for American Idol. I was also involved in brainstorming sessions and contributed to the format of series two.

Set up intranet in preparation for globalisation of IT department, to market the department’s services internally, and provide virtual IT support.

Managed translation resources and interfaced between project managers and language service vendors in the localisation of hardware for launch in the European markets.

Excelled in the theoretical linguistics modules, and would have achieved a Distinction overall had I focused solely on theoretical linguistics.

Language degree = Advanced communication skills (a note to those employers who still do not grasp the relevance of studying languages)
