I worked on a short term European project of KIC INNO energy, Flex Fuel, about a new class of low-sooting fuels called CyclOx that is in development by a spin-off company of the TU/e, Progression-Industry. My part of the project focuses on measuring and analyzing flame lift-off for these new fuels in relation to regular diesel and the corresponding decrease in engine out soot.

The research during my PhD. study focuses on a new combustion strategy called PCCI which is a combination of diesel and gasoline engines. This combustion strategy promises good fuel efficiency combined with very low soot and nitric oxide emissions. This research is conducted in close collaboration with DAF trucks, TNO automotive, Shell global solutions and Delhi Diesel systems.
