Senior technical expert in a team carrying out an in-depth study of the cashew sector and preparation of an action plan for the Ministry of Agriculture under a grant from the European Union. The purpose was to provide a road map for development of this sector in the world's #2 grower of cashew nuts. Duties included field and document research, writing of two reports (in French), and presentation of results to a steering committee composed of government and industry representatives.

Program development, project planning, sector & value chain assessments & development, building market linkages, proposal writing, technical review, building economic viability into agricultural & livelihoods activities, supporting country program technical activities, & representation of the organization for external audiences.

Based in Dakar, Senegal, managing all aspects of program implementation, writing funding proposals, overseeing budgets and personnel and property, assuring achievement of program results targets, keeping expenditures within budget, submitting technical and financial reports to sponsors and home office, writing funding proposals for numerous other countries where the organization had operations or wanted to have operations.

In the Republic of Benin and the Dominican Republic, conducted agricultural and soil-conservation extension among farmer associations; vegetable production for income generation and nutritional improvement; planning, establishment, & maintenance of tree nurseries; spoke publicly at community meetings in French & Spanish; worked with community groups to assess needs, prioritize problems, plan programs, & expand participation.

Agronomy & economics related to international agricultural development. Thesis research among rural households in Michoacan State, Mexico, focusing on relationship between remittance income from migrants and agricultural modernization in home villages.
