Thomas Kingston

Mr. Kingston presently serves as Principal Legal Consultant for CapitalSteps, an multi-disciplinary consultancy firm he founded in the UAE. Mr. Kingston advises private and corporate clients on transactional matters with specialisation in investment funds and portfolio management.

Mr. Kingston was most recently engaged in the corporate offices of the Abu Dhabi Investment Company (“ADIC”), a State-owned investment bank and advisor to UAE Sovereign Wealth Funds. Prior to IGY, Mr. Kingston acted as General Counsel to Sovereign Global Investment, a multi-billion dollar private investment house based in Dubai’s DIFC. While at Sovereign, Mr. Kingston developed and managed investment guidelines for foreign investment into South Korea, China, India, Indonesia and Thailand, as well as general guidelines for 30 other emerging economies, and participated in the successful resolution of disputes arising from investments made in South Korea’s SK Corporation. Prior to his role at Sovereign Global, Mr. Kingston established the legal practice of Kingston/Legal based in London, advising global investment funds and private family offices on multinational investment structures, assessing private equity opportunities and advising on compliance with offshore financial regulatory regimes. Mr. Kingston advised on the establishment of several fund management organisations as well as venture capital transactions for entrepreneur clients.

Mr. Kingston was previously General Counsel for Financial Risk Management, a multi-billion dollar fund of hedge funds based in London. As General Counsel and Group Company Secretary, Mr. Kingston managed numerous corporate, regulatory and personnel issues resulting from the organisation’s growth from US$300 Million under management to US$8.6 Billion under management. Prior to FRM, Mr. Kingston was retained as Consulting Legal Adviser to the OrangeVentures project for Orange Plc. He was engaged for the purpose of establishing a £300 Million corporate venturing vehicle in London and Boston, USA. His assignment included the design of a corporate structure for the private equity vehicle together with the integration of legal and investment process and documentation for investment associates.

Prior to OrangeVentures, Mr. Kingston worked as a senior attorney for the private client law firm of Tamosius & Partners in London. Mr. Kingston advised high profile celebrity clients and large private family offices on international asset management structures, including the design and formation of several offshore collective investment schemes and asset management structures utilising the jurisdictions of the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man and the United King

Mr. Kingston served for over seven years in the US Navy and Navy Reserves within the areas of anti-submarine warfare, amphibious marine operations and convoy command.
