Report directly to the Head of the corporate Legal Affairs department as a core contributor to such critical legal matters as drafting, reviewing, and modifying international business contracts; maintaining legal records for multiple brands; monitoring and addressing EMEA counterfeiting activities; and producing all manner of legal documents in support of cross-functional business efforts.

Consulted in collaboration with an FAO organisational law and development consultant to provide legal expertise for a short-term project, drafting bills and executive decrees relating to plant protection and pesticide issues in the African Cap-Vert peninsula.

Served as the R&D team’s customer and supplier liaison, paving the way for securing critical product importation and sales authorisations within various countries by ensuring continuous adherence to complex European and American legal requirements for an array of regulatory, technical, and safety certificates. Enhanced the R&D team’s understanding of complex legal issues with a knack for translating legal information for non-legal professionals.

Conducted extensive, in-depth research into wide ranging political and regulatory issues relating to genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Played a key role in crafting government affairs and public relations strategies, contributing to corporate position papers, press releases, and technical fact sheets to advance corporate lobbying at both the national and international levels.

Managed all legal aspects of the company’s participation in the industry establishment of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) public-private partnership with the European Commission. Effectively balanced the often competing interests of the private sector with the EU rules and governing principles through such legal challenges as formalising the IMI’s hiring standards.

Leveraged in-depth knowledge of the organisation gained in a 6-month, post-doctoral position providing a comprehensive review of international laws regulating food and trade with developing nations. Authored a well-received article on “The implications of the WTO decision on Biotechnologies on the developing country’s agriculture,” providing a fresh view that was a key influence in the development of a coherent regulatory framework for enabling developing nations’ access to green biotechnologies.

As in-house counsel with the Pharma Division’s Business Development & Licensing department, focused on optimising partnership contracts to minimise risk and potential conflict. Enhanced deep understanding of European law with the hands-on, professional perspective of a corporate in-house legal counsel.
