    Review and work into the existing optical reflective speed sensor. Test the sensor with sinusoidal and impulse output signals. Improve the circuit by adding protection functions against overvoltage, reversed polarity, and electrical disturbances. Design the PCBs by Autodesk Eagle. Test and optimize the output signal by adjusting the parameters of the sensor circuit.

    Measurement of the hysteresis in flexure-based mechanisms (a clamped leaf-spring). Investigate the performance of a new concept of mechanical joint based on precision mechanisms. Build an analytical model of the mechanisms. Automate actuator and sensors to allow an automated measurement procedure. Adapt set-up such that sufficient damping of the leaf-spring is introduced. Measure the hysteresis of various leaf-spring, clamp and pre-tension combinations. Document the measurement results.
