Christopher Gooch

I am in charge of a project providing IT support to the airline industry. Using a team of 20-30 technicians all over Germany and Austria we provide all types of software and hardware support to our clients, including large scale system rollouts. I have also been in charge of contracts for the US military and Microsoft Surface during my time. Tasks are varied and include (but not limited to) day to day operation, invoicing, hiring new technicians and handling customer relations.

Ammtec is a company which analyses geological samples for their gold content. I was involved in the final analysis part of the operation, specifically fire assay. It was our task to reduce the fine rock powder down to a “prill” ready for analysis with an ICP mass spectrometer. This was a more physically demanding job, which included handling samples within large, 1000 degree, ovens as well as other regular chemistry laboratory operations.

Working in a large laboratory facility, I was a member of a 10-person team responsible for the metals content analysis of the region’s water supply. I was responsible for operating one of the ICP mass spectrometers and reporting the results. Teamwork and quality control were of the up most importance, and I gained a lot of experience in both. During my time I learned a large variety of new laboratory skills and it was a very useful position for me to gain experience in a large scale laboratory operation.

A placement during my 3rd year of university, I joined the radiological characterisation team as a member of their environmental measurements section. I joined at the beginning of a yearlong project involving the delicensing of a large section of Berkeley nuclear power station. I was involved in the whole process, from planning, implementation through to reporting.
