Daniel Åkesson

Leading an organization consisting of the Purchasing and Logistics functions according to set strategies and targets in an international environment. Team members are located in several sites around Europe and northern Africa. Included in the assignment has also been to manage a change of the organization with the purpose to move resources from both functions to low cost countries. In addition I am a member of, and contributor to, the company’s Management team.

Purchasing Manager for Sweden and the related operations in Belgium, reporting directly to the country Managing Director. I managed a qualified purchasing team dealing with purchases of both indirect material, services such as Engineering Services, and direct material for Sweden and Belgium. I had full responsibility for the department’s budget. All targets set for the department was exceeded.

I was recruited to manage the strategic customer accounts Volvo Car Corporation and AB Volvo. I worked closely together with the Engineering department and the project organization located in Sweden as well as the central European Purchasing organization located in Germany. My main task was to improve the material cost, sourcing of development suppliers and project management.

At Volvo Powertrain I worked as a buyer of Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems taking an active and global role in the team as lead buyer for systems to the Heavy Duty Engine Platform in Europe. This included coordinating the global team of EATS buyers in the related activities as well as leading supplier negotiations and sourcing suppliers for new projects etc. My main focus was on managing the implementation of a new supplier base in South Africa, including the set up of a complete new factory.

Responsible purchaser for three different segments within the electrical department, Power Electric’s, Driver Information and Switches and finally Safety systems. During 2003 I participated in a Team Value Management (TVM) project and received recognition from high level management for my good results. As a purchaser I worked closely with colleagues from other brands within the Ford group. The work included sourcing, price negotiations and to act as a driving force in prioritized project.
