Dr. Jessica Lois Watson

I worked part-time for Professor De La Mare Rhodes University ( j.delamare@ru.ac.za) conducting research for her. This consisted of Indirect Immunofluorescence assay (IFA) and fluorescence microscopy experiments.

Tutored third-year BSc students in Biochemistry 301 This consisted of marking student tutorials and tests demonstrating scientific techniques and assisting in practical sessions.

My main responsibility in this job was taking care of the owners’ pets which included dogs, cats, horses, and chickens. This responsibility included feeding, daily health checks and assisting the vet with vaccinations.

During this internship, I was responsible for communicating with clients and helping to determine their diagnoses. Assisting in surgery prep for minor surgeries. Routine health checks.

Over the year, I shadowed and assisted the head veterinarian. My responsibilities involved routine health checks. Assisting in emergency procedures and assisting in minor surgery.

Dissertation: Investigating the effect that depletion of STIP1/ HOP has on the localisation and functioning of the TRiC and proteasome complexes in cervical cancer cell lines.- in the process of submitting the thesis, will graduate in 2025
