    Developed a cistern rapid sand filter and a cascade rapid sand filter for small villages in Uganda. Expanded research on chlorination using a car battery and solar. Mentored two young engineers along for the field work. Developed concepts for treating viruses in drinking water using solar as a heat source and wastewater treatment using papyrus (cash crop).

    Mission Uganda/SAME/Veolia Foundation

    Developed a prototype salt chlorination system (battery-powered, solar regenerated) for implementation in small villages in the Mityana District of Uganda. Completed successful field testing with a SAME-sponsored, Veolia Foundation-funded team of 8. Reduced bacteria in drinking water from 1000s (TNTC) in most cases to less than 10. Findings published in The Military Engineer Jan/Feb 2017 issue.

    Pro Bono Adaptive Engineering in Water Treatment Developed a household-sized slow sand filter using local materials for use in remote villages in Uganda. Created a small-scale salt chlorination unit using a car battery and solar recharge.
