Dr. Miranda Jarvis

In charge of A2MAC1's sustainability consulting products primarily for the automotive industry. Primary focus on project delivery and technical analysis including carbon footprint calculations and benchmarking as well as design for end of life and repairability studies. Additionally manage most of the product development and marketing.

Automotive consulting focused on cost optimization and benchmarking primarily focused on body electronics.

Published a paper based on a project that I fully led from data acquisition phase.

Conducted independent academic research predominantly focused on processing and analyzing astronomical images and spectra of Active Galactic Nuclei. • Built a data reduction pipeline for a large radio interferometric dataset (Python) • Led and collaborated on academic publications (tinyurl.com/MJarvis-publications) • Presented my research at multiple international conferences • Co-supervised junior PhD students and an intern • Successfully led proposals to obtain observations on world class observatories

Performed independent academic research analyzing galaxy spectra from international surveys (e.g. fitting models to the data).

Worked on the control system for an astronomical imaging and spectroscopic instrument, including hardware and software.

Taught two courses for predominantly non-science students: AST101- The Sun & its Neighbors and AST201- Stars & Galaxies. Duties included: running active learning and inquiry based tutorials, presenting planetarium shows, assisting with observing nights and marking.

Designed the calibration unit for an astronomical imaging and spectroscopic instrument (including optical and mechanical design using SolidWorks and Zemax).

Wrote an image simulator code with web interface (Python + CherryPy). Funding for this project was awarded to me by the university university through the ‘University of Toronto Excellence Award’.

Analyzed and calibrated astronomical images (using Python and IDL). Funding for this project was awarded to me through an ‘Undergraduate Student Research Award’ by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (allocated to me through the university of Toronto).

Thesis title: Multi-wavelength analysis to constrain the role of AGN in galaxy evolution. Cumulative grade: magna cum laude.

Undertook two independent research projects, including the collection, reduction, analysis and interpretation of astronomical data.

Graduated with High Distinction, cumulative GPA: 3.8/4.0.
