Dr. Gabriela Marcano

For the length of some years, I was selected to represent and to act as the advocate, and messenger, of 30 MBA Energy Management students at Faculty meetings. My capability for acting positively among different parties helped with the many challenges that the new program had. Applying my experience in leadership, public speaking, listening, mentorship, and the appropriate communication with people of other cultures constructed the necessary bridges for effectively solving the many challenges faced.

At BAM I worked in the area of material science investigation for developing and testing different carbonate/clastic-based materials. I took part in an EU Project on how to tackle the impact of earthquakes on rammed-earth buildings. Especially, on the evaluation of structural risks of masonry buildings, and finding solutions without lowering their potential as sustainable environmental friendly structures.

My curiosity and determination to study climate change and global warming led me to pursue studies, research, and work in past shallow-water marine systems. Specifically, in those formed during the Miocene warming at temperate latitudinal Earth regions. Particularly, to study the potential involvement of climate change over their ecologic assemblages, distribution and existence.

My first professional opportunity was as a Junior Exploration Geologist at the Exploration unit in Caracas. During my last year I was assigned to Intevep, the petroleum research center of PDVSA, in los Teques. I was included into the stratigraphy and sedimentology group within the basin analysis division. I had the chance to work with excellent professionals at different locations (Caracas, Los Teques, Maracaibo, Puerto La Cruz) including well sites, laboratories, and offices.
