Ken Beattie

I am a freelance translator specialising primarily in the field of architecture, design and construction with experience in the areas of architectural hardware, building security systems, waterproofing components and associated marketing texts. I also translate publications in the area of geotechnology and tunnelling. I also have extensive experience in the areas of automotive engineering, heating technology and also electronics and electrical engineering.

Initially in a supporting organisational role in a long-term multi-lingual quality management project for a well known Munich-based car manufacturer. I learnt how to translate using TRANSIT software and develop my specialist knowledge of the automotive sector. I was called on to develop strategies for organising workflows and managing human resources to cater for high volumes and peak periods and ensure the necessary quality of the delivered documents. I became head of department in 2001.

Freelancing in Stuttgart, I worked on many housing projects, producing sketch proposals, models and perspective drawings for presentation/discussion with clients. I also produced plans/sections and elevations for submission to the planning authorities.

Assistant to a fully qualified architect in a one-man practice as practical in-between my B'Arch(Hons) and Dip'Arch degree course working on housing and commercial projects
